Heritage

The Robinsons brand is synonymous with its quality and highest service standards which have been the tradition of the Company since its first days.

Founded by Philip Robinson and James Gaborian Spicer as Spicer and Robinson in 1858, Robinson & Co. survived 2 World Wars, The Great Depression, SARS, Asian Financial Crisis and numerous other crisis to become the leading fashion retailer in Singapore.

The quality and service standards of Robinson & Co. date back to the founding years and saw most of the Malay Rulers as well as King Mongkut of Siam (Thailand), then the most powerful Ruler in South-East Asia, became loyal customers.

Among the things that Robinson and Co. carried in the early days included piano, harmonium or horn gramophone when it was the fashion then and as well as Raleigh bicycles, offering a cheap form of transportation for the mass. These are the exact fundamentals that Robinson and Co. still holds today.

A big fire in November 1972 destroyed Robinsons at Raffles Place and they moved to Specialists' Centre, located at the heart of Orchard Road, Singapore's busiest and only shopping district then. In June 1983, Robinsons relocated to Centrepoint, occupying 5 levels of prime retail space. In March 2001, the second Robinsons store was opened at Raffles City.

Today, The Robinson Group manages eight retail entities that trade under the following brands - Robinsons, John Little, Marks & Spencer, Principles, Trucco, Coast, River Island and Fat Face.

The Robinson Group continues to uphold our tradition of offering quality merchandise from around the world, great value and first class service. And we take pride in maintaining our position as the market leader in the retail industry.
