NIKKIE embodies everything sexy and feminine in the world of fashion today. The collection curates understated occasion wear, taking women from day-to-night with style and elegance. We sat down with Dutch Fashion icon Nikkie Plesson to chat about her pop up collection featured at Robinsons The Heeren. Available now till end of August!
How do you go about designing a collection?
It’s important for me to make my personal style as a part of the NIKKIE DNA. The bottom line is if it’s not right for my wardrobe, then it’s not right for the brand. My NIKKIE team and I, fully support the NIKKIE collection – NIKKIE DNA is in our veins! That’s why the collection is so compelling to my customer. More importantly, we acknowledge the fact that women come in different sizes and they all have very different styles. For example, my dearest friend won’t wear the classic looks but she loves the rock n’ roll style. I treasure the opinion and feedback from my customers when creating my new collections.
What made you decide to start your label?
Growing up in The Netherlands, I was drawn to the word of fashion from a very young age. I started out as an actress, with roles in several movies, comedies too and got to host a daily life show for MTV Networks. Later on, I worked on live shows and programs, as a host for RTL. Fashion was always visible in my veins and when I was asked to be the leading lady of a TV program called Best Fashion Designer, I knew my dream of starting my own label would come true pretty soon. This dream became a reality in 2011.
Who or what are your fashion muses?
The title of Fashion Icon is oft overused (or misused), but when it comes to Kate Moss, the hype proves to be true. I really like her eccentric style, from the biker outerwear to the slinky dresses. She may be a rocker-chick at heart, but she also does grown-up glamour with ease. And that’s exactly what the NIKKIE collection is about!
What is your favourite item from this collection?
The collection is composed of essentials you can wear all year round, just like the Leather Pencil Skirt. For a business look, I match a Pencil Skirt and a classic top with Pointed-toe Pumps and if I’m in an edgy mood, I opt for a short skirt, a statement T and biker boots. The statement T-shirts and sweaters are our favorite sports-meets-street staples. You can easily dress them up with a Pencil Skirt and heels, or even go casual-chic with jeans.
What’s next for the label?
The main plans – besides our current stores in Europe – include opening new NIKKIE Brand Stores in Singapore, China, Japan, Australia and the USA.
