Ferric pyrophosphate is a poorly water-soluble iron compound, resulting in suboptimal absorption and low efficacy. However, this changes when used with the SunActive® endosomal Nutrient Delivery System (NDS). This patented technology incorporates micronization and microencapsulation of the iron compound, enabling it to disperse readily in water, thus improving its absorption and bioavailability. SunActive® transforms iron particles into micronized salt particles, which are then encapsulated in an emulsifier layer with a particle size of 0.3 μm. SunActive® iron particles are absorbed like liposomes by M cells, a unique type of intestinal epithelial cell, via endocytosis.
